Emotional Intelligence and Collaboration for Teams
presented by Karin Peabody

This highly interactive session is designed to facilitate connection and self-awareness, and to equip participants to understand the impact of their influence on workplace culture. In this session we will take a look at four universal pain responses to high stress situations. Practical and equipping, this session identifies key areas where stress prevents collaboration.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify what stressors are contributing to cognitive distortions in the workplace;
  • Learn what pain responses diminish collaborative efforts and why; and
  • Choose an action step to reorient focus for healthy workplace culture.

StrengthsFinder 101
presented by Karin Peabody

Gallup’s StrengthsFinder assessment tool helps create effective workplace teams that keep employees engaged and collaborative. Data-driven and engaging, StrengthsFinder has a “sticky-factor” that many other assessments do not have. Focusing on the language of strengths impacts work culture by focusing on what people are good at, rather than their weaknesses. StrengthsFinder is a solid foundation for building a high-collaboration, low-ego workplace.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the crucial difference between a Talent and a Strength;
  • Understand how they can leverage their own Strengths for impactful situational leadership; and
  • Gain insight into colleagues’ motivations, natural talents, and role within their team.

Creating An Individual Development Plan
presented by Jennifer Wann

Using the tools and insight gained from the previous two sessions, participants will create an Individual Development Plan to articulate clear professional priorities and set concrete goals to realize those priorities. This session will assist participants align personal core values with professional strengths to design a development plan that leads to greater professional satisfaction and strengthens library services.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe personal vision of librarianship and service;
  • Connect that vision to personal core values; and
  • Formulate a deliberate approach to work towards that vision.


Karin Peabody
Karin Peabody has been a communications instructor for the past twenty-five years. She specializes in empowering teams to work together more effectively and navigate the dynamics of interpersonal relationships. Her approach encompasses skill-based learning and raising awareness of the social and emotional aspects of communication.

Karin is also a Certified Strengths Finder Communicator and enjoys helping people discover and maximize their potential in a team context.

Jennifer Wann
As Manager of Library Development at the Arkansas State Library, Jennifer Wann is interested in developing statewide programs that assist libraries design services that meet their communities’ needs; foster best practices in library management and administration; and facilitate the professional development of library workers at all levels of the organization. Jennifer serves as the project director for the Arkansas Library Leadership Institute.

Jennifer received her MLIS from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2006. She is a Certified Practitioner of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and her MBTI type is ISTP. She has two cats named Spooky and Bug, and her favorite novels of all time are the Realm of the Elderlings series by Robin Hobb.
